Zenit Kazan dominates Tala’ea El-Geish
Zenit Kazan, reigning European champions, roll past Tala’ea El-Geish in a quick three set sweep, 25-14, 25-19, 25-15 in Pool A.
Zenit Kazan out-blocked Tala’ea El-Geish 10-0 with Maxim Mikhaylov getting three of the blocks, also adding seven kills to his tally. Wilfredo Leon Wenero added six kills and Matthew Anderson had seven for Zenit Kazan.
Tlal’ea El-Geish’s Ahmed Abdelhay put down nine kills and one ace.
UPCN takes down Minas Tenis Clube
UPCN, six-time Argentinean champions and the 2015 bronze medalists at World Champs, swept Minas Tenis Clube, 25-22, 25-18, 25-18 in Pool B.
Nikolay Uchikov led the way for UPCN with eight kills, two blocks and two aces. Close behind was Martin Ramos with seven kills, three blocks and one ace.
Leading the way for Minas Tenis Clube was Yordan Bisset Astengo with a match-best 14 kills. Tiago Wesz contributed nine kills to the effort.
Sada Cruzeiro defeats Taichung Bank
Sada Cruzeiro stomped Taichung Bank in less than an hour in a three set sweep, 25-10, 25-16, 25-13 in Pool A.
Leading all players, Yoandy Leal Hidalgo put down 12 kills and three aces for Sada Cruzeiro. Evandro M. Guerra added nine kills and one block.
Not much scoring happened for Taichung Bank in the three set drop, Chien-Feng Huang led the team with six kills.
